Athletes keen to get involved in this weekend’s Victor Harbor triathlon are urged to register, following news the Murray Bridge event this month has now been cancelled.
Pushing Limits Events announced the decision to cancel the Murray Bridge Triathlon, describing it as “a tough one to write” after what it says has been a financially difficult year for the small South Australian business.
The organiser said participation numbers across the season have been down, with the ongoing impact of the algae bloom affecting confidence around triathlon events. It says the downturn has taken a significant financial toll, forcing a decision aimed at protecting the long-term future of the business.
“We know this will disappoint some of you, and we are truly sorry. These decisions are never made lightly,” the statement read.
With the Murray Bridge event cancelled, attention now turns to the 31st running of the Sid James Victor Harbor Triathlon, which will be the final race of the 25/26 season.
The event begins on Friday the 6th of March with the Victor226 race, followed by an expo on Saturday and the main event on Sunday.
Victor Harbor Council is encouraging motorists to prepare for diversions on Sunday morning, with road closures in place for parts of Canterbury Road, Baudin Road, Oval Road and the Esplanade. Armstrong Road will remain open throughout the event.
Organisers are encouraging athletes who have been considering competing to register now, saying they are keen to finish the season strong and are calling on the community to support grassroots racing and local events on the South Coast.
Entries for the Victor Harbor race remain open via the Pushing Limits Events website.
