Treated carrots will soon be released throughout the Adelaide Hills, as measures to control feral rabbits ramp up.
The joint operation between the Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu and the Mount Barker Council is already underway, with untreated carrots being planted to entice the rabbits to particular areas.
Virus-treated carrots will then replace them in early February.
While the areas will be clearly signed, rabbit owners in the Adelaide Hills are being urged to make sure their pets are vaccinated against the RDHV virus as a precaution.
The virus causes no harm to other animals or humans but is deadly to rabbits.
The plan comes after repeated complaints from council residents, who claim they have caused large amounts of damage to local biodiversity.
