Kavel MP Dan Cregan is set to become Special Minister of State and Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services in SA, following a cabinet reshuffle announcement today.

The report follows news on Friday that the Adelaide Hills-based Member of Parliament would join the cabinet, but remain an Independent, handing over the Speaker role to Mawson Member Leon Bignell.

The cabinet reshuffle was triggered by the resignation of independent MP Geoff Brock from the ministry due to health concerns.

Dan Cregan MP, Member for Kavel said today that it will be “a privilege to be able to serve the State in this way.”

He has insisted he will will remain an Independent and will not be joining the Labor Party.

“I will vote independently on legislation before the Parliament – as Geoff Brock did before me,” Cregan said.

“SA’s Constitution was drafted long before the major parties evolved to dominate politics and allows independents to be appointed to Cabinet.”
