The suspected perpetator of a fatal hit and run during schoolies is facing multiple charges today in court.
About 9pm Friday 17 November, emergency services were called to Beach Road after a pedestrian was struck by a car.
The car did not stop at the scene but was pulled over by police a short distance away on Port Elliot Road at Goolwa.
The pedestrian was 18-year-old Charlie Stevens – the youngest son of Commissioner Grant Stevens and his wife Emma.
The victim sustained an irreversible brain injury, and was on life support at Flinders Medical Centre before dying in hospital on Saturday evening with his family surrouding him.
The alleged driver of the car, an 18-year-old Encounter Bay man, was arrested on Friday night, his charges have been upgraded since the death to causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated driving without due care, leaving the scene of a crash after causing death and failing to truly answer questions.
He has been refused bail and is due to appear in Christies Beach Magistrates Court today, Monday 20 November.
The suspect’s vehicle was towed from the scene for a forensic examination.
