The CFS have saved a range of properties from a grass and scrub fire in Macclesfield this morning, with efforts continuing into the afternoon as they look to fully extinguish the blaze.

More than 200 personnel on 40 trucks responded to the fire at its peak, with aerial units also conducting drops after 7:30am to stop the blaze from reaching nearby houses.

Authorities were alerted to the fire just after 1am, with it initially burning southerly off of Strathalbyn Road.

A Watch and Act message was then sent out around 2:30am as it shifted southeasterly, forcing residents to evacuate in the dead of night.

Homes around Venables Street, Lisa Court, Wait Court, Leedham Court, Kingrose Street, Parin Street and Vernon Street were under threat, with some residents reporting that the fire was close to their back fences.

The CFS also stated that some locals held their ground to help extinguish spot fires.

The Watch and Act was downgraded just before 8:30am, with the threat officially reduced two hours later.

As of midday, the CFS says that 21 trucks will remain at the fireground to monitor conditions, with a small amount of local rain also helping firefighters on site.
