Registration labels for South Australian boats will no longer be required from 1 September 2023.

The State Government move means boaties no longer have to replace and display labels each year and saves 60,000 labels from being printed annually.

The Infrastructure Department has listened to feedback from boaties about the appearance of labels, which can fade and crack over time, particularly given boats are often exposed to harsh weather conditions.

The registration process will remain the same, with a range of registration options – including online, in person at a Service SA centre, over the phone or via mail.

Boat owners will also continue to receive registration renewal notices approximately six weeks before expiry and a Certificate of Registration in the mail as proof of registration once paid.

Marine Safety Officers regularly monitor boat ramps and waterways across the state, to ensure all boaties are taking their safety responsibilities seriously, including checking licence and boat registrations are up to date.

Penalties apply to boat owners who operate an unregistered vessel.
