Traffic woes between Murray Bridge and Murray Bridge East are about to ease with the completion of major bridge works.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has been working since April 2022 to refurbish the 1879 Bridge, to increase its lifespan by about 30 years.
As the first major bridge spanning the Murray River in South Australia, Old Murray Bridge is a significant State Heritage structure.
The South Australian Government committed $46 million to deliver the program of work.
This Sunday 24 September at at 3pm, the bridge will finally reopen to two way traffic, though it will be closed in both directions that day 8am-3pm.
The community is celebrating the project’s completion with a party from 10am til 1pm with a vehicle procession, a free BBQ and music from the Murray Bridge Concert Band. The Murray Bridge RSL will also open its military museum that day to the public.
