The race routes for the 25th edition of the Tour Down Under have been announced, with the Fleurieu and Adelaide Hills to feature heavily once again.

While Willunga Hill will continue to be one of the toughest tests for competitors, the elite cycling event will also add Pound Road in Ashton to the route, which at its toughest has a 22% gradient.

Murray Bridge was featured following the River Murray floods in 2023, however it’s been snubbed for next year’s cycling festival in favour of more action in the Adelaide CBD.

The schedule release coincides with new figures suggesting the 2024 event earlier this year brought more than $87 million in economic impact for South Australia.

Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison says there’s a strong drive to be innovative every year.

“We’re always looking for those innovations and opportunities. Last year we started out at Murray Bridge, as a nod to the challenges that they’ve been having with the high water so this is something we always take on and consider,” Bettison said.
