The Marriage Trap, set in Adelaide in the tumultuous decade of the 1960’s in which women were able to “for the first time, take control of their lives, their fertility and, as they entered the workforce, do things in record numbers. Do things that were right for them, their bodies and their families” Victoria said. The book explores new freedoms, rebellion and how the contraceptive pill changes the lives of Australian women forever. Australia was the second place in the world to approve the use of the pill in 1961, initially intended for use solely by married women for the purposes of family planning to space out the age of their children, it was not available to single women.
