History Month at the Round House and Captain’s Cottage

LOCAL History Lovers are in for a treat with Free Entry to both The Round House and Captain’s Cottage every Thursday throughout May to celebrate History Month.

Our History Month celebrations will also include a one day event hosted at the Round House on Sunday 19 May between 11am and 3pm including free entry and tours as well as live music, gin tasting plus food and drinks available for purchase.

The Captains Cottage, built by Captain Adam Johnstone in 1890 for his wife and their
nine children, gives you an experience of life as it was at the turn of the century. The site
showcases an extensive collection of historic engines and farm machinery, model boat,
train and toy exhibits and an amazing photographic collection – all from a bygone era.

The Round House is one of Murray Bridge’s oldest surviving buildings, completed in 1876
during the construction of the first bridge to span the Murray River. This historic home
played a significant role in the early history of the township and now operates as a
vibrant community space that welcomes visitors as well as telling the story of the bridge
and early township.
