Glenbarr Garden Gala – A Day of Inspiration for Garden Lovers

Glenbarr Homestead is excited to announce the launch of the inaugural Glenbarr Garden Gala, set for March 9th, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 4 PM. This exciting new event promises to be a day of horticultural inspiration for garden enthusiasts of all ages.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, the Glenbarr Garden Gala offers something for everyone. The day will feature expert-led workshops for both adults and children, with the chance to learn new gardening skills and explore creative ideas for your garden. Renowned gardening expert Sophie Thomson, along with a lineup of other experts, will be on hand to share their insights through engaging talks.

In addition to the educational experiences, visitors will enjoy browsing a variety of stalls offering plants, garden tools, ornaments, and products to inspire your next project. Whether you’re looking to add new plants to your collection, find unique garden décor, or pick up supplies for your latest gardening endeavor, there’s something for everyone.

Glenbarr was built in 1842 by the pioneering William Rankine and his family who were instrumental in the settlement of Strathalbyn, consequently  Glenbarr holds a  unique place in our region’s history as one of the original homesteads still in use in South Australia.

Beyond its colonial heritage, Glenbarr has played a significant role in the community thanks to the efforts of Daphne Bowman OAM and Kathleen Bateman OAM.  Their work established Glenbarr as a hub for Girl Guide camps, retreats, and programs for disadvantaged youth.

Today, we continue this tradition by hosting events, retreats and community programs, all while working tirelessly to restore and maintain this historic property.    We are currently run by volunteers as the Glenbarr Bowman and Bateman Foundation, a not for profit organisation.
