Stargazers set to explore the night sky at Palmer Sculpture Park

Photography enthusiasts will have the chance to experience the night sky in a very different way when the Murray Bridge Community Photography Club and Murray Bridge International Photography Club join forces for an Astrophotography Night at Palmer Sculpture Park on Sunday, October 11.

The free outing will bring photographers together to explore the spectacular Palmer Sculpture Park, discover its sculptures and installations, and learn more about the exciting world of astrophotography.

Some members plan to arrive a little earlier to conduct a reconnaissance of the area, particularly with new installations now appearing at the park. The group will also explore The Gap, an impressive natural landscape that has been likened to a small part of the Flinders Ranges.

For photographer Glenn Power, the outing is about more than simply pointing a camera at the stars.

“By day, the drive out to Palmer is beautiful, with huge gum trees, yakkas and some amazing country. But once the sun goes down, the whole place takes on another character,” Glenn said. “Astrophotography is exciting because you can capture things our eyes simply can’t see. We’ll be there to help people understand their cameras, their phones and available settings, and to have a go themselves.”

Whether experienced with a camera or completely new to photographing the night sky, participants are welcome. Phones and cameras are encouraged, while a tripod is recommended.

The outing is one of the first combined activities involving the two Murray Bridge photography clubs, reflecting their growing spirit of cooperation and shared interest in photography.

The event is free, but participants must register and be a social member of the Murray Bridge International Photography Club for insurance purposes.

Interested photographers can text Glenn Power on 0413 640 541 and contact Julie Moulds on 0447 136 853 at the International Photography Club to arrange social membership.
