2025 Volunteering Expo

Residents and community members are invited to come along to the 2025 Volunteering Expo at the Tailem Bend Town Hall on Saturday, 29th March 2025, and explore how they could make a difference in their communities.
Hosted by Coorong District Council, the event is open to everyone to learn about the different volunteer and not-for-profit organisations who are active in the Coorong district that contribute to and support their local communities.
The Volunteering Expo will give local not-for-profit groups the chance to showcase themselves, and invites individuals to explore new opportunities that have a positive impact in their community. Expo visitors will be able to discover volunteer roles that match their interests, skills, and passions.
Volunteering creates positive relationships that build stronger local communities. It connects us and strengthens our sense of belonging, while having fun and making a positive difference in our community.
The Coorong District Council is proud to support this inaugural event, which aims to address a recent decline in volunteering within the district.
Coorong District Council’s Mayor Paul Simmons says data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows a significant decline in volunteering for the Coorong district.
“The ABS data revealed volunteer numbers in the Coorong district had fallen from 35.5% in 2016 to 27% in 2021,” says Mayor Paul Simmons.
“This decline significantly impacts our local community groups and sporting clubs who rely heavily on volunteers for the success of their programs, services, events and projects.”
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our regional communities, and our sporting, community and service clubs would not survive without those who volunteer. By encouraging a volunteering culture in the Coorong district, we are ensuring our communities continue to benefit from the projects, programs, facilities and events delivered by our not-for-profit organisations and groups.”
Mayor Simmons encourages residents to attend the Volunteering Expo.
“The Volunteering Expo is a great opportunity for community and volunteer groups to come together, connect and learn about all the wonderful volunteering opportunities that exist in our district,” says Mayor Paul Simmons.
The many benefits of volunteering include sharing knowledge, skills and experiences across generations, improving health and wellbeing, and enabling our communities to become stronger and more connected.
