Waikerie has joined an illustrious list by claiming the 2026 Agricultural Town of the Year Award, as part of the Regional SA Showcase last night in the Barossa.
The Riverland town beat Burra and Kimba to become the first town in the region to win the award.
The independent judging panel praised Waikerie for its strong vision for the future and willingness to continue to grow and evolve, including looking beyond its own borders for ideas and opportunities.
They were particularly impressed by the way the town involved young people and students in telling Waikerie’s story, giving the next generation an opportunity to shape the current and future narrative of their town by sharing their own experiences and perspectives.
Waikerie now sits alongside Lameroo, Penola, Wudinna, Mypolonga, Kimba, Pinnaroo and Cleve as winners.
