Local Footy Wrap – 17th August

The first finals lineup across our regions has been confirmed, as the push for a spot at the pointy end of the season reaches fever pitch. Catch up on all the action here:

HILLS FOOTBALL LEAGUE (Division One results here, Country Division results here)

The Country Division finals are locked in for the Hills Footy League, with Bridgewater pipping Kangarilla for a double chance spot after Saturday’s last round of the season.

The Raiders beat Echunga by 53 points (19.9 123 to 10.10 70) to not only end the Demons’ finals hopes but also gain the percentage to jump Kangarilla, who lost by 65 points to minor premiers Macclesfield (18.8 116 to 8.3 51). 

It means Bridgewater will play Kersbrook in the qualifying final, with Kangarilla facing Meadows in the elimination final.

Over in Division One, Uraidla confirmed their spot in the finals with a 27-point win over Blackwood (11.9 75 to 6.12 48), Mount Lofty missed a huge chance to move into the five with a shock 12-point loss against Nairne Bremer (10.8 68 to 7.14 56) and Onkaparinga Valley smashed Hahndorf in their top-of-the-table clash (18.11 119 to 8.11 59).

RIVER MURRAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

The race for the fifth finals spot in the River Murray Footy League will go down to the wire, after Rambler blew a golden opportunity on Saturday as part of Round 17 action.

The Roosters had the chance to move a game clear but fluffed their lines, as they lost to the now two-win Tailem Bend by 22 points (11.13 79 to 8.9 57), after the Eagles kicked away in the second. 

Elsewhere, Southern Mallee are locked into the fight as well after they lost by 52 points to Mannum (14.11 95 to 6.7 43), Mallee Districts stayed alive with a 26-point win over Mypolonga (9.10 64 to 5.8 38) and Jervois won a top-four finals warmup against Imperial by 49 points (17.8 110 to 9.7 61).

GREAT SOUTHERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE (full results here)

Mount Compass have claimed a key warmup match for the finals ahead in the Great Southern Football League, beating fellow finalists Langhorne Creek by seven points (9.6 60 to 7.11 53) on Saturday. 

The Dogs kicked five goals to one in the last quarter to seal an important comeback win, with Tom Pinyon kicking five himself in a low-scoring tussle.

Elsewhere, Myponga-Sellicks held a firm challenge to win by five points over Encounter Bay (10.6 66 to 9.7 61), Victor Harbor won their fourth game of 2026 with a 57 point win over Strathalbyn (14.11 95 to 5.8 38) and both McLaren Districts and Willunga won easily.
