Police Horse Windsor Retires to a Quieter Life in Langhorne Creek

A long-serving South Australia Police horse has retired from duty and will now enjoy a quieter life in the Langhorne Creek region.

Police horse Windsor officially finished his career this week at the age of 22, after two decades serving with the Mounted Operations Unit.

Windsor joined the unit as a two-year-old and went on to complete more than 2,000 operational hours across 396 deployments, including public order operations and search missions.

Throughout his career, Windsor played a role in community engagement, public safety and operational policing, becoming a valued member of the Mounted Operations Unit.

Officer in Charge of the Mounted Operations Unit, Senior Sergeant First Class Kelly-Anne Taylor APM, said Windsor had left a lasting legacy.

“Windsor has been a valued member of our Mounted Operations Unit for 20 years, serving the community with distinction, professionalism and a calm presence,” she said.

“He has left a lasting legacy within the unit and the wider community.”

Windsor will now enjoy retirement in the Langhorne Creek area, where he will spend his days grazing in green paddocks and receiving plenty of care.
