Country communities are being encouraged to put their towns forward for South Australia’s 2026 Ag Town of the Year.
The annual award celebrates towns that excel in agriculture while also showing strong community spirit, resilience and regional leadership, recognising places that are both productive farming centres and great places to live and work.
For the Murraylands, Mypolonga remains one of the standout success stories in the award’s history, taking out the title in 2022. The town was praised at the time as a ‘small but mighty’ farming community, recognised for its strong local initiatives and outstanding contribution to agriculture at both state and national level.
Last year’s winner was Lameroo in the Southern Mallee, honoured for its proud agricultural identity, regional development and strong community collaboration. Lameroo was selected from a record 96 nominations across the state.
Previous winners also include Penola in 2024, Wudinna in 2023, Kimba in 2021, Pinnaroo in 2020 and Cleve in 2019.
The winning town receives official recognition from the Primary Industries Minister, commemorative signage at town entrances, a community celebration event, statewide media promotion and a feature in SALIFE magazine.
Nominations are open until the 6th of May at agtown.com.au, with finalists to be announced in August and the winner revealed later this year at the South Australian Regional Showcase Awards.
