A joint parliamentary inquiry report into the algae bloom situation in SA has been released, a year on from the start of the crisis at Waitpinga Beach.

The committee, led by Greens MLC Robert Simms, made 11 recommendations including better access to disaster funding for councils, mental health support for affected businesses and long-term environmental monitoring.

The report also flagged a lack of preparedness for a slow-moving ecological disaster, leading to uncertain decision making from officials.

The City of Victor Harbor told the inquiry it was left to manage community concerns during the early stages of the crisis.

The State Government says it’s investing more than $160 million dollars in recovery efforts and will review the recommendations.
