A major construction firm is suing the State Government over cost blow-outs linked to ferry terminal upgrades.
McMahon Services has launched proceedings in SA’s Supreme Court, claiming $28.8m in variations and damages over works at Cape Jervis and Penneshaw at the end of 2024 and the start of 2025.
The company alleges ground conditions were misrepresented during construction of new anchor blocks, saying rock at the sites was “crumbly” rather than hard as expected, forcing redesigns and extra costs.
The Minister is yet to file a defence.
The port upgrades were completed in October last year, with the new ferries and increased services set to begin later this year.
