Mount Barker District Council is calling for calm after early concept images for its long-awaited City Centre project were shared on Facebook without context, sparking some community confusion.

The images, shown to elected members this week, are only an early draft and not the final design. Council says there’s still a long way to go, with more engagement planned involving local residents and the Community Reference Group before anything is set in stone.

To help clear things up, Mount Barker District Council is uploading the full presentation to its website in the coming days, along with extra commentary and a FAQ section explaining what was presented and what happens next.

Locals are also being invited to help shape the project by coming along to one of several upcoming community drop-in sessions:

  • Thursday 17 July, 5–7pm at Mount Barker Community Library
  • Saturday 19 July, 1–3pm at von Doussa Clubrooms (Dunn and Bickle land)
  • Wednesday 23 July, 3–5pm at Mount Barker Central (near Coles)

Council staff will be on hand to chat and hear what matters most to residents in the heart of Mount Barker. The area under planning covers key spots from the Dunn and Bickle land in the north to the Dumas Street Park ‘n’ Ride in the west.

This is the first stage of engagement, with a draft masterplan expected to be released for formal feedback in early 2026.
