Foreign Investment in SA Farmland, the New Norm?

Foreign investment in South Australian land is on the rise and, according to the most recent Adelaide Hills seller, we may have to get used to it.

Greenglen, an orchard on Stentiford Rd in Lenswood, has been sold to a Singaporean businessman, Vinod Martin, for $1.2 million dollars.

The 43 ha property owned by Ashley and Brenton Green was on the market for six months with no interest from Aussie farmers before they sold it internationally.

Vendor Ashley Green has told the Advertiser while some people may be opposed to their decision to sell to a foreign investor, it is the way of the future.

“I know that people don’t like farms going to foreign owners. But the reality is that, in order to keep farms in Australian hands, we need more Australians to become farmers and that just isn’t happening,” he told the Advertiser.
