Police in Kangaroo Island are searching for a suspected arsonist.

At about 4.45 a.m. on Wednesday 16 January, an emergency service personnel saw a new fire outbreak within an already burnt pine plantation along Pioneer Bend Road.

They reported seeing a person adjacent to the fire, while a SAPOL member also saw a torchlight being operated in the same area as the person was seen.

A comprehensive search was undertaken in an effort to locate this person but to no avail.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

At this time, police are continuing investigations into this matter.
