A disqualified driver has apologised in court for hitting a cyclist in the Adelaide Hills.

Romano Andreucci fronted the District Court on Tuesday 8 October and said he was "so sorry for what happened."

On January 13 2019 around 5.30pm, the 59-year-old struck a cyclist with his car on Mt Barker Road in Bridgewater.

The Klemzig man said he had sun glare in his eyes at the time and thought he had hit a dog or a koala.

He did not go to the police and was arrested at his house about 30 hours after the crash.

He will be sentenced later this month.
