The Murraylands Community Men's Shed has taken out an award for 'Best Shed Garden' in the 8th National Men’s Shed Gathering in Adelaide.
Presented every two years, the awards recognise groups going the extra mile and for innovation in the shed.
“Our National Men’s Shed Awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate the very special or unique achievements of our members,” said AMSA’s Executive Officer David Helmers.
The awards recognise Men’s Sheds across five categories, after nominations were submitted earlier this year.
The Murraylands Community Men’s Shed was established in 2012, with the quarter-acre garden playing an important part of the shed’s activities from the outset.
This year's conference theme, ‘Our Community’, has incorporated best practice, health & wellbeing, workshops and demonstrations, a robust social programme and an acknowledgement of the increasing position Men’s Sheds have within their communities.
Men’s Shed positively engage with their community for the benefit of their community and have become vital community assets and, in many regions, the main or only focal point for positive male engagement and activity.
The National Men’s Shed Awards will return in 2021 and will be announced as part of Men’s Shed Week celebrations (20 - 26 September 2021).
