The Victor Harbor Council is considering whether to ditch helium balloons for future events.
Marine and bird deaths from choking hazards and other environmental factors are behind the push from council to appoint a new committee.
The committee will investigate options for amendments to by-laws and policies for council approved and council run events.
The concept has been in the works for a while, with a resolution to ban the use of helium balloons in outdoor areas first proposed in a December 2017 Council meeting.
While the Alexandrina Council plans to consider a similar resolution, the District Council of Yankalila has no intention to.
