Cheese makers and distilleries in our regions have a chance to vent about a push from the European Union to force them to re-name their products.

Under a proposed free-trade deal with Australia, the EU wants protections for its produce.

Feta-makers could be forced to refer to their products as "Australian feta" if successful, and local spirit distillers would need to avoid using the term "Scotch".

The Federal Government will consult with industries over the next three months before deciding whether the deal is in the national interest.
