The State Government has doubled-down on its support for water irrigation efficiency measures following a damning report about Murray Darling Basin Plan mis-management.

Monday night’s Four Corners story revealed the $4 billion dollar Water Infrastructure Scheme at the heart of the Murray Darling Basin Plan is subsidising farmers to use more water, not less.

While the State Water Minister David Speirs said he will push for more auditing and accountability of water recovery, he also said that “investing in infrastructure that saves water and returns licences to the commonwealth is still the best way to recover water.”
