The Meningie hobby farmer who kidnapped and raped a European backpacker will spend at least 12.5 years behind bars.
District Court judge Geraldine Davison handed Gene Charles Bristow an 18 year sentence on Tuesday 14 May, saying that he remains a significant danger to society.
The 54-year-old was convicted by a jury in March on six charges including aggravated kidnapping, rape and indecent assault. In 2017 he lured a 24-year-old backpacker to his property where he chained her hands and legs and raped her.
The judge determined he “created an entirely false version of events” and blamed others in a bid to “justify his actions”.
