A miraculous escape for two men after their military trainer aircraft crash landed in a Fleurieu Peninsula paddock.

An ex-fighter jet pilot and his French counterpart had been doing aerobatics training and were heading to Goolwa Airport when the Aermacchi S-211 turbo-fan powered military trainer lost power near Kessell Road just after midday on Saturday 13 April 2019.

With 28 years’ experience in the Royal Australian Air Force, pilot Jim Whalley was able to calmly look for a paddock to land in as the engine cut out and managed to land the aircraft with minor damage to the plane and no damage to human life.
