A statue in Mount Barker has been unveiled at the new pedestrian crossing on the Adelaide Road, Gawler Street intersection.
The six metre sculpture of leaves, ‘Photosynthesis’, is the work of local artist Marijana Tadic, the creative mind behind the award winning Gateway to Adelaide project at the bottom of the freeway.
Taditch spent two years making the piece, funded by Mount Barker District Council, Department for Planning Transport and Infrastructure and Business Mount Barker.
The iconic public art work will act as a prominent entrance statement
providing an extraordinary first impression of Mount Barker during the day and at night, where it will be illuminated by LED floor lamps.
Council’s Mayor Ann Ferguson said the recently built pedestrian crossing
and slip lane at the intersection of Adelaide Road and Gawler Street had substantially improved safety and vehicle access.
“All we needed was a stunning centrepiece for our new entrance and what
Marijana has created for us is brilliant. We are all excited for the installation of what is sure to become a talking point and tourist attraction for locals as well as visitors to Mount Barker,” Mayor Ferguson said.
