Aged care residents in Strathalbyn will be part of a nation-leading initiative to co-design their own aged care precinct.

The State Government announced the move on Wednesday 7 March, having engaged the Global Centre for Modern Ageing  (GCMA) on the project.

Minister for Health Stephen Wade said that in the shadow of Oakden, it is important the state finds a way to deliver best practice care to vulnerable older Australians.

$12 million dollars will go into upgrading the Strathalbyn and District Aged Care Facility as well as reactivating Kalimna.

More than 150 people from the Strathalbyn community are expected to be involved in the collaboration, including future residents, health practitioners and service providers.
