Southern Right Whales may soon have more protection if there is enough community support.

The Alexandrina Council is seeking feedback on measures they could take to protect the endangered creatures.

Mayor Keith Parkes says while a number of measures are already in place, the council may look to approach State Government about a motorised vessel exclusion zone between the Hindmarsh and Murray river mouths.

Mayor parkes said, "We don't want to get to the stage where the whales become intimidated by the boats and then start to go elsewhere to calve and we lose that enjoyment of being able to see them so close to shore."
