If you know someone who is an outstanding member of the Coorong District Council region community, nominations are now open for the council’s 2019 Australia Day Awards.

In 2018, Australia Day events were held throughout the district, spread over the towns of Tintinara, Meningie and Tailem Bend, where worthy Coorong recipients were celebrated at each event.

2019 Coorong district nominations don’t need to be limited to these towns – nominations are welcome from all areas across the district from Salt Creek to Peake.

You can nominate someone for the Citizen or Young Citizen of the Year, or if there’s an organization that has done outstanding work there is also Community Event and Community Project of the Year.

Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year: significant contribution to the community, an inspirational role model and the scope or impact of their contribution on the local government area

Community Event of the Year: the quality of the event, scope of the impact of the event on the local government area, the event’s contribution to the community;

Community Project of the Year: quality of the project, scope of the impact the project has on the local government area, the project’s contribution to the community.

If you know someone who fits the bill, nominations close October 26.

Some of the district’s outstanding achievers who were presented with awards in 2018 included Tintinara’s TRADE Inc. group, who received the Community Event of the Year
award for bringing together the local community in hosting the Dr Temple Grandin event during 2017. The Meningie Food Fun Fair also received Community Event of the Year for their community-minded annual event held in the Lions Park.

Bill and Margaret Jaensch from Tailem Bend and Andrew Dawes from Meningie were awarded Citizen of the Year for their long-standing commitment to their respective
communities.

Nomination forms are available from Council’s offices or can be downloaded from Coorong District Council’s website: www.coorong.sa.gov.au/australiaday
