Karoonda East Murray elected member Morris Terrell has joined Mayor Kevin Burdett in announcing he won’t be running for council again at the upcoming elections.

Councillor Terrell was elected 4 years ago, saying his biggest success was the upgrade of the memorial gates at Karoonda Oval.

“It was wonderful to work with Margaret Size on the upgrading of the memorial gates at Karoonda Oval, an important community project backed by Council,” he says.

The gates, which are inscribed with the names of 600 local veterans who served on conflicts from World War I to Afghanistan, were repaired and modified by councillor Terrell himself.

He says he’s keen to have more time to spend on his community work and that this is a great opportunity for new blood to come forward and contribute to the Karoonda community.

“It’s always good to have new blood in organisations and with people stepping down, there is an opportunity for renewal at the upcoming elections,” Cr Terrell says.

“Karoonda is a proud town and we need to keep reminding people that nothing happens without effort."

“I’ve got a lot of faith in the Council and would encourage anyone to step up and take on a Council role.”
