Backlash Over What Isn't On The Hahndorf New Entry Sign

There are some people disappointed in the names included on the new Hahndorf entry sign.

The sign, which was designed to reflect the names of the first land holders in the town, has just 2 women amongst the 54 initials and surnames.

Chair of the Hahndorf Entry Statement Committee Mt Barker Councillor Jeff Betcher says women are represented in other areas of the town including the Pioneer Women’s Walking Trail and a plaque.

But critics of the sign say it wouldn’t have been difficult to include the initials of the wives of the first land holders on the sign, to better reflect the contribution of the families of those first settlers.
