An Adelaide businessman says he is relieved to be unharmed after his van burst into flames on the South Eastern Freeway on Thursday 5 May.
Paul Wales from Derek Wales & Son Surface Coatings was travelling on the uptrack in his work van near Stirling around 4pm when he noticed his vehicle was 'sluggish' and smoke was coming from his cabin. Acting quickly, he pulled over and got out and within a matter of minutes the van was fully engulfed with flames.
Commuters and a nearby RAA repairer came to his aid with fire extinguishers, but it was not until firefighters arrived that it was properly contained.
The cause is unclear though he had some paint cans in his van at the time and his vehicle booked in for a service next week.
He said he was glad to be unscathed from the incident, is fully-insured and is grateful for the help from passers by and firecrews.
"I was fine and at the end of the day, it was just a car.... the firecrews were fantastic," Paul Wales said.
