A Murraylands man will have to face court just before Christmas after a grass fire led police to discover a large cannabis crop.

Patrols were called to a property at Kuchel R, Mobilong, on Friday 22 October, following reports of a fire.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze after it had burnt a few hundred square metres of land. No one was injured and no properties were threatened by the fire.

Patrols then allegedly located a crop on the property, seizing approximately 40 hydroponic cannabis plants and a substantial amount of cash.

The 62-year-old occupant was arrested and charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis, possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis and unlawful possession.

He was granted police bail to attend the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on 20 December.
