Grape Opportunity for Local Wine Producers

Three established or emerging winemakers have a great opportunity to take part in an innovative initiative in our region.

Following its successful 2019 launch of Project 5255, Langhorne Creek Grape and Wine Inc. have put a call out for vino producers to apply for the initiative in which three producers will receive 2 tonnes of Langhorne Creek fruit to create their own wine, under their own label.

The first round delivered three exceptional wines, one of which saw South Australian  winemaker Charlotte Hardy of Charlotte Dalton Wines (pictured), take home the top gong of Young Gun of  Wine.

Charlotte Hardy continues to work with Langhorne Creek fruit to deliver her Fiano which sold out within weeks of being released.

“I found the project to be one of those uplifting things you are lucky enough to  do in your career that really changes your thinking and direction. I could not recommend this project  more," Charlotte Hardy said.

Langhorne Creek Grape & Wine Winemaker Committee Chair, Sam Watkins said the project is hugely successful and after global recognition, is back to entice winemakers to explore the region once again.

“We didn’t anticipate the level of interest we received for the inaugural Project 5255 which saw us receive more than 20 winemaker applications,” Sam Watkins said.

“The calibre of the applicants was outstanding, and the three finished wines created a real buzz in the industry nationally... we even received feedback from an overseas wine region asking if they could replicate the  program."

Langhorne Creek is one of Australia’s largest viticulture regions and is home to multi-award-winning wines and wineries.

Applications close at midnight November 15, 2021.

Anyone with a Producer’s License is eligible to apply for Project 5255.  For full criteria and an application form visit langhornecreek.com/project-5255.
