An elderly woman  is lucky to escape injury after a car crashed into her Adelaide Hills unit in the early hours of this morning.

Just before 4.30am on Friday 19 February, the occupant of an Alexandrina Road home awoke to a Honda Jazz crashing into her front dining room.

The woman and the driver of the car were both uninjured in the ordeal.

Extensive structural damage was caused to the front of the home. SES attended to stabilise the building before the car was winched out.

Police are investigating the crash and will be following up with the driver.
