South coast beach goers have been praised for helping to rescue a woman and her dog at sea.
The Hayborough woman went into the water at Basham Beach yesterday morning to help her Staffy but got swept out to sea.
Witnesses told media that the woman and her dog were about 100 metres offshore at one point.
Surfer Bella White paddled out with her board to help keep her afloat with help from other surfers.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at about 10.20am with duty officers from nearby Surf Life Saver clubs also attending the scene.
The woman was treated at the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution.
She and her dog Spud were not injured in the incident.
