Police are investigating the cause of a fire that has completely destroyed a home in Crafers.

Eight CFS fire trucks and 35 volunteer firefighters responded to the blaze at the Wright Road property near a dogpark yesterday around 2pm.

Upon arrival, crews  found the fire had spread throughout the house and the roof had collapsed.

The owner of the property was at home at the time and managed to escape with no injuries.

Firefighters managed to stop the fire spreading to neighbouring properties on either side.

Approximate dollar assessment of damages is $250,000.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
