An Adelaide Hills non-for-profit is currently caring for a wombat who was shot 26 times in SA's South-East.
The injured animal was found on the side of the road on Tuesday 13 October by a wildlife carer from Wombat Awareness Org.
The team has brought the wombat to their sanctuary in Flaxley to treat him for gunshot wounds, heat exhaustion and dehydration.
They have named him Harold and say, considering his condition, they are heartened that he has shown enthusiasm for his dinner.
The RSPCA is urging anyone with information about the incident to get in touch as it does not have sufficient information to launch an investigation at this stage.
