A warning from the environment department; Murray river irrigators are facing incredibly low allocations from July 1.

The Environment Department has warned the active storage volume is 25 per cent lower than the same time last year.

Irrigators are being told to continue to plan for very low water availability for the beginning of the upcoming water year.

However irrigators are demanding an explanation for the “doom and gloom” prediction considering recent high rainfall and event flooding in several rivers interstate.

The Chair of SA Murray Irrigators Caren Martin, of Renmark, has told Adelaide Now that her organisation will seek an explanation of why rainfall in the last month has made no difference to the forecast.
