The State Government has declared a Severe Weather Activation for most of South Australia, as inclement weather threatens over the next few days.

The Murraylands and Fleurieu Peninsula have been included in the activation, with heavy rains and potential thunderstorms forecasted this evening and tomorrow.

The declaration means more resources will be supplied to local organisations who provide shelter for those sleeping rough, with the regional aspect of the activation current until Sunday morning at 9am.

Homeless Connect SA will continue to operate 24 hours a day seven days a week, with anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness is encouraged to contact them on 1800 003 308.

Human Services Minister Nat Cook says it’s imperative to help those who need a hand.

“In the coming days the combination of forecast rain, storms and wind pose real risks to rough sleepers who are among those most affected by extreme weather,” Cook said.

“The Severe Weather Activation will help them stay warm and safe and protect their belongings from the weather.”
