Strathalbyn cafe Hammer ‘N’ Tongs has closed its doors for the last time.
The popular eatery, with hundreds of positive reviews, shut yesterday, Sunday 3 March, citing several reasons for the sudden closure, including financial challenges and the flow on effect of opening a business just two weeks before the COVID pandemic started.
“Since then we have faced hurdle after hurdle with restrictions, road works and staffing. The start-up costs paired with ongoing pressures have become too much to continue, we never envisioned our journey ending like this and are shattered,” Maurice and the family wrote on the Hammer ‘N’ Tongs Facebook on Sunday 3 March.
They have thanked their loyal supporters and have urged community members to continue to support small local businesses.
“Just shy of four years ago we opened the doors to our amazing community and it’s because of you that we have been able to provide the place we hope you have enjoyed and can hold memories of.”
