The Graham Mason SA1 Hot Rod, affectionately known as The Winged Warrior, is back after 38 years.

Driver and speedway enthusiast Allan Balshaw has been restoring the car close to its former glory for the past two years and is looking forward to sharing it with the public this Saturday 22 February 2025 at the Murray Bridge Speedway.

“It was a joy to restore and it’s a joy to run and to see all those fans still to this day supporting and following the Mason cars. My brother Michael also helped in this restoration, he also runs in the class. Yeah it took some time and effort but we’ve got a big smile at the end,” Allan Balshaw told ARN’s Adam and Jennie.

The iconic car was driven by local legend Graham Mason who Allan says was known as ‘the gentleman of the track’.

“He had an iconic number 7 from early days in the 1970s and then had the opportunity in the ’85, ’86 and ’87, and winning the title of SA1. Because of that he was followed a lot by a lot of people, fans, even announcers and commentators over the years,” Allan said.
