Education is set to be a top priority in the upcoming State Budget, with school infrastructure a key focus.

More money be injected into the Adelaide Hills and northern suburbs as the regions expand.

A new primary school and pre-school is planned for Mt Barker, which will allow for another 300 and 100 enrolment spots respectively.

The new schools are set to cost $62.7m as part of a $218m state-wide investment.

Operations at both new schools and the preschool are expected to begin in 2028.

The budget will also include $38.1m to upgrade and expand a number of schools, including $4m for Mt Barker High School.

Hills-based Minister Dan Cregan said he is pleased the area is getting the attention it deserves.

“The need for additional facilities in Mount Barker was something I repeatedly raised with the former government..I was deeply frustrated that no new government preschools or primary schools were ever approved,” Minister Cregan said.
