The iconic Bunyip in Murray Bridge is temporarily disappearing from public life to ‘have some work done’ on its aging hydraulics.
The character has not totally gone, however with an Augmented Reality version accessible via a QR code at the riverfront at Sturt Reserve, while mechanical repairs are undertaken.
The Rural City of Murray Bridge (RCMB) Chief Executive Officer Heather Barclay said although the animatronic attraction was timeless, the aging technology requires regular attention.
“It seems The Bunyip enjoyed a vacation from the crowds last summer when the riverfront lair was in flood and is taking another extended breather this year,” she said.
“The Bunyip is having a short break and spa treatment to refresh, in order to continue scaring visitors at Sturt Reserve, while teaching people to respect the river and never swim alone.
“While our animatronic attraction steps away from the public spotlight we’ll have a fantastic virtual reality option available at the riverfront where people can use their smart phone to view The Bunyip on the water.”
Local enterprise Australian Custom Engineering is working on a fix to restore The Bunyip to the usual roarsome character people love to visit, as soon as possible.
