The CFS and State Government are urging those in regional areas to be prepared ahead of the upcoming bushfire danger season, with continuing dry conditions and higher temperatures expected for Spring.
Authorities met yesterday to outline the current situation, with areas such as the Northern Mount Lofty Ranges considered high-risk due to dry scrub and forest sections.
The Government also raised concern regarding regional residents and a potential level of complacency, following a stretch of years which had below average fire activity.
Fire danger season dates for each region across SA will be determined over the coming weeks.
CFS Chief Officer Brett Loughlin says it’s up to everyone to be ready.
“Staying safe from bushfire is a shared responsibility between the CFS and the South Australian community,” Loughlin said.
“With a forecasted hot and dry summer, it’s really important for people to prepare their properties and make or review their Bushfire Survival Plans for the upcoming Fire Danger Season.”
Member for Kavel and Emergency Services Minister Dan Cregan says the conditions should be treated with respect.
“The best advice available to government suggests we are facing a hotter and drier summer, coming off a relatively dry spring,” Cregan said.
“We are deeply concerned about the risk of bushfire across all areas of the state, noting that landscapes are expected to cure much earlier this season.”
