The Mid Murray District has received a $1.5M Federal grant through the Regional Precincts and Partnership Program, following a $1.1M grant through the federal Play Our Way fund.

Mayor Simone Bailey has told ARN’s Adam and Jennie this morning that the funds will help inform a new precinct plan, bringing together 11 towns in the district; Mannum, Palmer, Tungkillo, Cambrai, Blanchetown, Morgan, Swan Reach, Truro, Keyneton and Cadell.

“It was incredible news for us, $1.5 million to develop a comprehensive precinct plan… what we’ll be able to do is set-up some really good plans so that when other grants are available or when the community wants to partner with us, we can have a plan on what to do,” Mayor Simone Bailey told ARN.

“Once the money is there we’ll get some consultants out we’ll have a chat, and then we’re going to do a lot of community engagement and we’re going to go to those towns, find out about what people love about their towns, what they think needs improvement and we’ll go from there.”

The Coorong Council has also been successful in the Commonwealth funding stream, receiving $508,000 their Tailem Bend growth precinct, which will include designs for streetscaping for the Tenth Street Housing Development.

Mayor Bailey said the Mid Murray Council has also been successful in receiving money in the Federal Play Our Way program, which will benefit local sporting clubs who are also pitching in.

“We’ve been offered over a million dollars to build some new changerooms, redo the netball and tennis courts, some lighting for the precinct and some septic works that will help connect our RSL and hopefully our new cricket club,” Mayor Bailey said this morning.
